Making Cookies

Today IS a school day for us, but we haven't made it into the school room yet today.  We spent the morning cooking.  On Wednesday it is our turn to host playgroup and since we could potentially have an additional 20 people or so in the house that day for lunch we had to get cracking.  Today we made fruit juice jigglers, four pie crusts for Chicken Pot Pie, and finally Banana Oatmeal Cookies from the La Leche League cookbook "Whole Foods for Babies and Toddlers."

Kal-El read the recipe for me (he has the ingredients memorized).  Me Too begged me to fix his chef's hat.

After a chip clip fixed Me Too's hat situation the boys worked together to add the oats to the rest of the dry ingredients.

Kal-El cracked an egg by himself for the first time today.  The first one went really well, he copied my demonstration nearly exactly.  The second one didn't crack sufficiently after tapping it on the side of the bowl so he just crushed it in his fist like the terminator.  Miraculously no shell fragments wound up in the bowl.

Kal-El loves to supervise the action in the mixer when it is running.

The boys are napping now, but we WILL go into the school room after naps so I plan to post about our more traditional Montessori activities later this evening.
